Uruguay (Spanish Uruguay / i;? Officially República Oriental del Uruguay [re'puβlika oɾjen'tal del uɾu'ɣwaj] "Eastern Republic of Uruguay") is a country in the Southern Cone of South America. It is the smallest Spanish-speaking country in South America. Uruguay is bordered to the north by Brazil (separated by the Uruguay River) to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the Río de la Plata and to the west in the south of Argentina. After the arrival of European settlers, the exposed by the Spanish horses and cattle developed on the vast grasslands of the Pampas in large herds, which formed the basis for the economic wealth of the country.
