Windsor [wɪnzə] is a town in the English county of Berkshire. It lies on the River Thames and borders the south-west London. The city has 28,324 inhabitants and is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The name is an abbreviation of Windleshore (mutatis mutandis: Spiral riverfront). From the site, the since 1917 valid name House of Windsor the British royal family derives.
