Wark on Tyne, usually simply called Wark, is a small town and civil parish in Northumberland, 20 kilometers west of Hexham. The name comes from the Viking term for earthworks and refers to a mound in the south of the village, the former site of the village hall. Wark was formerly the capital of Tynedale.
