Tavistock is a small town on the west Tavy, Devon. The river was the reason for the naming. The city has a population of around 11,000. The history of the city starts at 961 when the abbey Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the modern city center, was founded. The Megalithic Merrivale (also Merivale) is located in the Dartmoor National Park, near the B3357 at Tavistock.
