Rothes (Gaelic: Ràthais) is a city in the Scottish region of Moray. It is located about 60 km east of Inverness and 70 km northwest of Aberdeen on the north bank of the River Spey. Rothes was founded in 1766 on the site of an older settlement. In 2011, Rothes recorded 1252 inhabitants. In the village center above the Glen-Spey distillery, the 13th-century ruin of Rothes Castle is located. Rothes is located in the major whiskey region Speyside.
