Paignton [peɪntən] is a coastal city on the "English Riviera", adjacent to Torquay in South West England. Paignton formerly belonged to the county of Devon, but since 1997 it is part of an administratively independent unitary authority Torbay. The three locations of the unitary authority have well together 132,000 inhabitants in of 2006. Over the years, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are grown so that the three cities appear like one. Paignton itself has 49,021 inhabitants (National Census 2011).
