North Middleton

North Middleton is a village in the Scottish council area Midlothian on the northern edge of the moor Foothills. The nearest town is the Gorebridge three kilometers northwest located. Musselburgh located 13 km north, Galashiels 24 km southeast. The eponymous Middleton is located one kilometer south. A few hundred meters north of the Gore Water, a tributary of the South Esk. Runs in 1971 lived 160 people in North Middleton. In the early 15th century, a fortress was built with Borthwick Castle one kilometer northeast of North Middleton. The Mary Queen of Scots found there in 1567 after the assassination of her husband Henry Stuart, along with James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell shelter. Built in the 1710s years mansion Middleton Hall is located one kilometer south-east. The significant Arniston House is located three kilometers west near Temple.
