Newcastle-under-Lyme is a town in the English county of Staffordshire, about 42 kilometers north of Stafford. It counts 73,944 inhabitants and is the administrative center of the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme has which 109,567 inhabitants (2005). The often simply Castle by the locals called the city is 8 km west of the neighboring Stoke-on-Trent. Since these cities are almost completely grown together, Newcastle is unofficially often regarded as affluent suburb of Stoke-on-Trent. Both, together with Kidsgrove a metropolitan area, which is known as The Potteries.
