Lewes is a district in the county of East Sussex in England. He is named after the administrative seat of Lewes. Important places such Barcombe, Ditchling, Falmer, Newhaven, Newick, Peacehaven, Seaford and Ringmer. The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and was created from the merger of the Borough Lewes, the Urban Districts Newhaven and Seaford and the Rural District Chailey.
