Kirkcudbright [kərkuːbriː] (Gaelic: Cill Chuithbeirt) is a place in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland and has 3352 inhabitants (2011). The village is located 25 miles west of Dumfries near the mouth of the River Dee in the Solway Firth. High Banks is a 30 m long rock digestion with petroglyphs south of Kirkcudbright. 1455 Kirkcudbright was established as a Royal Burgh. In 1888 the composer Cecil Coles († 1918) was born in Kirkcudbright.
