Forres (Scottish Gaelic Farrais) is a Royal Burgh Town in Moray in the north of Scotland with about 9951 inhabitants on the River Findhorn. Allegedly Forres was already the ancient geographer Ptolemy known as the Port of Varris. Since the 12th century it was a fortified enclosure to protect the trade. is famous son of the city of Donald Smith, later known as Lord Strathcona, one of the pioneers of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
