Corfe Castle

Corfe is a village in the county of Dorset in England. It lies on the River Corfe at the ruins of the historic Corfe Castle. The village is located in a valley in the Purbeck Hills, in the middle of the Isle of Purbeck, seven kilometers southeast of Wareham and eight kilometers west of Swanage. It is about 12 km southwest of the major cities of Poole and Bournemouth. The main road A351 from Lytchett Minster via Wareham to Swanage, as well as the railway line of the Swanage Railway meander through the gap in the hills and the village center. Near Corfe are Poole Harbor to the north, Ballard Down and Old Harry Rocks to the east, and it stretches to the English Channel to the south. The village in Purbeck district has 1355 inhabitants (as of 2011), of which 36\% are retired.
