Balmedie (Gaelic: Baile Mheadhain) is a village in the Scottish Unitary Authority Aberdeenshire. It is located about eleven kilometers north of Aberdeen and 28 km south-southwest of Peterhead near the North Sea coast. In 2011 Balmedie recorded 2534 inhabitants. Balmedie has been growing very fast for several decades. In 1961 only 53 people lived in Balmedie. Balmedie is located on the A90 between Aberdeen and Fraserburgh. At Balmedie, the A90 tapers from four to two lanes. However, there are plans to extend the road also north of Balmedie four more miles to the south of Ellon. The North Sea beach of Balmedie is less than a kilometer west of the village.
