Ballymena (Irish: An Baile Meánach, "middle town") is a town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, and was the administrative seat of the former District Ballymena, which opened in 2015 in the District Mid and East Antrim. The city has 28,717 inhabitants (2001), of which 24.2\% are Catholic and 72.2\% Protestant.
