Alves (Gaelic: An Abhais) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Moray and capital of the eponymous Parish. It is located not far from the southern shore of the Moray Firth, about seven kilometers west of Elgin and 50 kilometers east of Inverness. The community is composed of the main town of Alves and the hamlets Crook of Alves, North Alves, Wester Alves, Alves Wood and New Alves. In 1831 Alves counted 945 inhabitants. At this time, the town was further north to the dating from 1769 Old Parish Church. In 1961, 214 and 10 years later 207 people were counted in Alves.
