Vaxholm is the capital of the Swedish municipality of the same name. The town with 4,857 inhabitants (2010) located in the Stockholm County or the historical province of Uppland. Vaxholm is on Vaxön, an island in the Stockholm archipelago, and is a popular destination for Stockholm, since this is where most of the ferries Stockholm archipelago area intersect and there are buses from Stockholm. Besides the mostly commercially operated ferries, there is also a free ferry connection of the Swedish Transport Administration to the neighboring island Rindö.
