Waihi is a town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants at the western end of the Bay of Plenty region on the North Island of New Zealand. The city, which belongs to the Hauraki district, was significantly influenced by the gold mining. The name Waihi is composed of the Maori terms Wai [water] and Hi [raising].
