Waiheke is an island in New Zealand, located about 18 km from Auckland. It is to Great Barrier Iceland's second largest island in the Hauraki Gulf. The heavily indented island is 92 square kilometers in size, its east-west distance is 19.25 km, north-south length 9.65 km. There are 19 bays, mostly with fine sandy beaches. Mainly in the western part of the island about 8700 people live permanently (as of 2011). In high season, there may be as many as twice by the users of holiday homes longer. There are several wineries on the island.
