Taio (Nones: Taj, German obsolete: Thayl or Theyl) is a town in the municipality of Predaia and was until 2015 an independent municipality northeast Italian community in the province of Trento in the Trentino-Alto Adige. The place is located at an altitude of 515 m. s. l. m. The local saint is San Vigilio. Effective January 1, 2015, Taio merged with Coredo, Smarano, Tres, and Vervò to form the new Predaia community. Taio is the capital of Predaia and lies about 28.5 kilometers north-northwest of Trento on the Noce. The municipality of Taio had on December 31, 2013 3032 inhabitants in an area of ​​11.3 km ². The municipality included the factions Dardine, Dermulo, Mollaro, Segno, Torra and Tuenetto. Neighboring communities were Coredo, Denno, Nanno, Sanzeno, Tassullo, Tres, Ton and Vervò. The place name may derive from the Italian taglio, which can be translated as "clearing".
