Sassuolo is an Italian industrial city with a population of 40,853 (December 31, 2015) south of Modena and northwest of Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna. Sassuolo has long been the center of the Italian tile industry. As a result of the relocation of production to Spain and China the importance of this industry fell sharply, leading to an increase in unemployment. The main attractions in the city of Palazzo Ducale Sassuolo is one of the Dukes of Este from the 17th century. The architect was Bartolomeo Avanzini. The interior was decorated with frescoes of the French Baroque painter Jean Boulanger and Angelo M. Colonna and Agostino Mitelli. US Sassuolo Calcio is represented in the football Serie A since the beginning of the 2013/2014 season.
