Piombino is a town in the Italian province of Livorno with 34,060 inhabitants (December 31, 2015). The downtown area is preserved almost completely with its historical elements from the Middle Ages to modern times as an ensemble. Several fortificatory elements such as a gate with Barbican are partly preserved. From afar, however Piombino makes a modern impression, as much industry has settled there. In particular, the (of which only one is active) conveniently with its own port on the seafront opposite Lucchini Steel Works with coke plant, two blast furnaces, a BOF shop and several rolling mills dominated the view.
