Pineto is a town of 14,904 inhabitants in the province of Teramo. Pineto is located in the Italian region of Abruzzo. The neighboring municipalities are Atri, Silvi and Roseto degli Abruzzi. Pineto (Italian pine grove) is named after the Pinenhain that runs on the 2 km long sandy beach along. On the beach, the Torre di Cerrano (Tower of Cerrano), which was built in the Byzantine period as a defense tower against Turkish pirates, but is used as a laboratory for investigations of the sea today. The Pinetesi (population) live since the thirties of the last century in Pineto, before most citizens from Mutignano, which is a fraction of Pineto today arrived. The patron saint of the village is Sant'Agnese and the local holiday will take place on 21 January.
