Montan ([mɔntaˑn], Italian Montagna) is a municipality with 1641 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2015) in the South Tyrolean lowlands in Italy, about 15 km south of Bolzano. The name Montan comes from the Latin mons (mountain). The charming steep slope and surroundings - overlooking the Unterland, the Kalterer See and the opposite Mendelkamm - brought the town, which has some old town houses, also tourism.
