The town of Grado (from the Latin ad gradus, on the stage, a channel that led to Aquileia) (Friulian Gray, gradesisch Gravo, Slovenian Gradež) with 8251 inhabitants (December 31, 2015) is located on the northern coast of the Adriatic Sea on a coastal dune at the far end of the Gulf of Venice. The island of Grado is also called the Island of the Sun or gold island.
