Castel Volturno

Castel Volturno is located on the west coast of Italy in the province of Caserta the Campania region about 35 km northwest of Naples and about 35 km west of Caserta. The city with a population of 25,281 (December 31, 2015) located at the mouth of the river Volturno same name. The namesake of the town is a castle on the river bank that has its roots in the 9th century. In ancient times the city Volturnum was at the river mouth. Castel Volturno was a settlement of the Samnites and then the Etruscans. The town lies on the former Via Domitiana, which was built in 1954 with a bridge over the Volturno again. To the administrative district of Castel Volturno include Villaggio Coppola (or Pinetamare) and Villaggio del Sole.
