Calliano (German obsolete Rossbach) is a municipality with a population of 1,807 (December 31, 2015) and is located in the Trentino in Vallagarina. As a strategically important point of the middle Adige Valley was the scene of bloody battles. On 10 August 1487 the Tyrolean troops attacked under the Alsatian mercenary leader Friedrich Kappler in Calliano the Venetian army at that crossed the Adige just a boat bridge.
