Artegna is a municipality southeast of Gemona del Friuli, north of Udine in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region with 2885 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2015). The neighboring communities are Buja, Gemona del Friuli, Magnano in Riviera, Montenar and Treppo Grande. In 1976, Friuli, located in an earthquake-prone area, was hit by an earthquake whose epicenter was between Gemona del Friuli and Osoppo. There is a partnership agreement with the community Breitenbach SO (Switzerland). After the Second World War, many men from Artegna found work there. The ISOLA works in Breitenbach even sent a delegation in 1956 to recruit "Arteniesi".
