Unkel is a town in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate and administrative headquarters of the same name municipality. The city is located about 20 kilometers south of Bonn on the lower Middle Rhine and has a share in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. It is known both by its reputation as a city of red wine and as the residence of many well-known personalities such as Willy Brandt, Stefan Andres, Ferdinand Freiligrath, Leonhard Reinirkens or Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
