Ruhpolding

Ruhpolding is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein in the Bavarian Alps. The main town is located in Ruhpolding valley, which is also called "Miesenbacher Valley". Ruhpolding is a nationally known cure and tourism. The name Ruhpolding is derived from the Bavarian "Rupoltingin", meaning "to the people of the famous strong man" (pold = strong or strong, Ru (d) = famous). The pronunciation of the Bairischen according to the place name is correctly on the first syllable stressed (ruhpolding) and not on the second syllable (ruhpolding).
