Rottenburg am Neckar (until 10 June 1964 only Rottenburg) is a medium-sized town in the district of Tübingen in Baden-Wuerttemberg. It is located about 50 kilometers southwest of the state capital Stuttgart and about twelve kilometers southwest of the county town of Tübingen. Tübingen is the second largest town of the district Tübingen and forms a center for the surrounding communities. Since 1 May 1972 Rottenburg am Neckar is a large district town. With communities Hirrlingen, Neustetten and star Zach the city Rottenburg am Neckar in administrative matters. The city is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
