Monschau [ 'mon.ʃaʊ also' mɔn.dʒaʊ̯] (until 1918 Montjoie, August 9, 1918 changing the name by imperial decree in Monschau) is a town on the Rur in the Eifel. It is located in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Aachen region. The city lies between the slopes of the natural park Hautes Fagnes-Eifel in Rureifel that bears its name from the river Roer. Worth seeing is primarily the Red House, the former headquarters of the textile industrialist family Scheibler (see Łódź Carl Wilhelm Scheibler).
