Limburg an der Lahn (officially:.. Limburg a d Lahn) is the county town of the district of Limburg-Weilburg in Hesse, with around 34,000 inhabitants also its most populous city. The city of Limburg met by Hessian state planning function as a middle center with upper central part function and, together with the adjacent Rhineland-Palatinate city Diez a transnational double center with around 45,000 inhabitants. Limburg has due to its location a central function for the sparsely populated western part of Hesse, and for parts of the Westerwald circle and the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate. Nationally known is the city mainly by the same diocese, with its cathedral, the Romanesque cathedral of St. George, and the ICE station Limburg South of the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine / Main.
