The town of Kalkar is located in the Lower Rhine in the northwest of North Rhine-Westphalia and is a district town of Kleve in the district of Dusseldorf. She is a member of the Euregio Rhein-Waal. An earlier notation, valid until June 9, 1936 was Calcar. Kalkar, founded in 1230 and probably received 1242 municipal rights, is particularly characterized by a medieval embossed cityscape.
