Dippoldiswalde (colloquially dips) is a district town in the district of Saxon Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony. The city is centrally located in the Eastern Ore Mountains, located about 20 kilometers south of Dresden, halfway between the border with the Czech Republic and the state capital. In the district Dippoldiswalde forms with its approximately 14,500 inhabitants, is one of the three medium-sized centers. The first mention of Dippoldiswalde dated to the year 1218, since then the city government center in the Middle Ages was several historical territories, the Office Dippoldiswalde and later a Amtshauptmannschaft. Last Dippoldiswalde was until 2008 county seat of Weißeritz circle (license plate DW). was moved since the county seat to Pirna, Dippoldiswalde is large district.
