Crostau (Upper Sorbian Chróstawa) is a town in the district of Bautzen and is located in the middle of the Upper Lusatian Highlands, on the southwestern tip of the district of Görlitz. He was until 31 December 2010, an independent municipality and since then belongs to the city of Schirgiswalde-Kirschau. The place name is - as with Crostwitz - from the Old Slavic word chróst for "bushes" derived (see Upper Sorbian chrósćina = scrub, shrubbery).
