Baunatal (named after the Bauna) is a medium-sized town in the district of Kassel in northern Hesse in Germany. It was created on 1 January in 1964 by the merger of the formerly independent municipalities Altenbauna, Altenritte, Großenritte and Kirchbauna as a result of the settlement of a work of Volkswagen AG in 1957 in Altenbauna. Later Hertingshausen, Rengershausen and Guntershausen were added.
