The Romanesque Bamberg Cathedral of St. Peter and St. George is one of the German imperial cathedrals and with its four towers, the dominant building of the World Heritage Bamberg's Old Town. He stands on the distinct elevation of the Cathedral Hill, which still has more historic buildings. Inside are located beside the Bamberger Reiter the grave of the only canonized emperor and empress of the Holy Roman Empire and the only papal grave in Germany and north of the Alps. Besides the three Wallfahrtsbasiliken Marienweiher, Vierzehnheiligen and Gößweinstein Bamberg Cathedral is the fourth minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bamberg.
