Aue is a large district in the Saxon Erzgebirge and belongs to the league of cities Silberberg. The town lies in a deep valley of the river Mulde and applied until the end of the 20th century as an important mining and industrial city. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it experienced its first bloom through the mining and processing of iron, silver and tin ore as well as kaolin clay. Through the recovery of nickel from occurring in the vicinity ores and the production of Argentan and the industrialization in the 19th century, major companies in the metal processing, mechanical engineering and textile processing settled and contributed to a new upsurge. A third golden age began after the Second World War, when it was driven by the Wismut the mining of uranium. Today Aue is nationally known for the football club FC Erzgebirge Aue.
