The official free Hanseatic city of Anklam is a town in the Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany). The city is one of the 18 central centers of the country. Anklam is known due to its location as Wolgast as a "gateway to the island of Usedom" and is known as the birthplace of aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal.
