Vela Luka

Vela Luka (literally "Big Port"), ital. Valle Grande, is a Croatian harbor town on the island of Korcula in the eastern Adriatic. The independent municipality with 4,137 inhabitants (2011 census) is the second largest town on the island and is located in the far west of the deeply cut bay. It has a ferry to Split and the neighboring islands. Vela Luka is a tourist resort with a long of developed pebble beaches and offshore bathing islands. There are several hotels and private accommodation and numerous restaurants. The place is just a few meters above the sea. The highest peak is located south-west, 376-meter-high Hum. Besides tourism, the fishing and the cultivation of wine and olives are still of economic importance.
