Marija Bistrica is one of the most popular and most visited Marian pilgrimage places in Croatia. The place name is a combination of the name of the Holy Mother of God, of which there is a statue in place, and the river Bistrica, which flows through the village. About 500,000 faithful take part in about 50 pilgrimages, which take place from the beginning of April to the end of October. Marija Bistrica is located in the Krapina-Zagorje County, about 27 kilometers of road north from Zagreb, north of the Medvednica Mountains.
