Weihai (Chinese 威海, Pinyin Wēihǎi, formerly 威海 衛 / 威海 卫, Wēihǎiwèi) is a city in northeastern Shandong Province of China km² with an area of 5,436. In the year 2004 2.483.889 inhabitants were counted. Administratively to Weihai is composed of two districts (Huancui, Wendeng) and two independent cities (Rongcheng, Rushan). Weihai is the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop. There are hot springs in the city, the coast are offshore many islands. British navigator gave the city the nickname Way High.
