Sanya (Chinese 三亞 市 / 三亚 市, pinyin Sanya shì) is a prefecture-level city in Hainan Province of China. The city is located in the south of the island. Its administrative territory covers an area of ​​1,919 and 685,408 inhabitants (Census 2010/2011). Sanya is known for its tropical climate and wide sandy beaches and it has evolved into a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists since the year 2000. Sanya also the Second Globalization Forum and the elections in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2010 found Miss World in 2002, instead. In Sanya is an important naval base of China.
