Hohhot (Mongolian ᠬᠥᠬᠡᠬᠣᠲᠠ, Chinese 呼和浩特, Pinyin Huhehaote) is the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China. The town's name is Mongolian, meaning Blue City; However, the Chinese translation (青城 = "blue / green / azure / Pure City") also allows for other colors, so the partially used label Green city declared by the Chinese. The administrative area of Hohhot City covers an area of 17,271 and 2.27 million inhabitants (end of 2009). This results in a population density of 124 inhabitants per square kilometer.
