Aserbaidschan (aserbaidschanisch Azərbaycan) is an internal state in the Near East. Located between the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus, it is bordered to the north by Russia (Dagestan) - and only here in Europe, in the northwest of Georgia, on the south by Iran, on the west by Armenia and - on the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan - to the Turkey. The exclave of Nakhchivan is separated from Azerbaijan's heartland by an Armenian territory stripes. The capital of Azerbaijan is Baku (Azerbaijani Bakı), a major port city on the Caspian Sea.
