Villach

Villach [fɪlax] (Slovenian: Beljak, Italian: Villaco) is the seventh largest city in Austria and after Klagenfurt, the second largest city of the province of Carinthia. It provides for southern Austria and the Alps-Adriatic region is an important transportation hub. The statutory city with its 61,221 inhabitants (1 January 2016), the largest city in Austria, which is also the capital of a province. As part of the Alpine Convention Villach 1997 elected the first Alpine Town of the Year 2014 and received a European award for the commitment in the areas of environmental protection and renewable energy.
