Schwechat is a town with 17,409 inhabitants (1 January 2016) southeast of Vienna, on the river Schwechat. The city is known by the International Airport of Vienna, the largest oil refinery in Austria owned by OMV and the common brand Schwechater beer brewery Schwechat. The community is located in the center of the south-eastern part of the district Wien environment. As the safety management is carried out by the National Police Directorate Lower Austria, Schwechat has a different from its license plate WU, namely SW.
