Armidale

Armidale Dumaresq is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales. The area is 4,235 square kilometers and has about 24,000 inhabitants. Armidale Dumaresq located in the northeast of the state about 550 kilometers north of Sydney. The area includes 83 districts and towns, including Armidale, Dangarsleigh, Dumaresq, Hillgrove, Jeogla, Kelly Plains, Lower Creek, Wollomombi and parts of Black Mountain and Ebor. The administrative headquarters of the Council is located in the town of Armidale in the West LGA, which has about 19,800 inhabitants. The area is located in the New England area and is dominated by agriculture (production of wool, cattle). Armidale is a university town and seat of the University of New England, Australia's oldest university outside of the big cities. Several national parks in the region and turn tourism into an important economic factor of Armidale Dumaresq.
