Albania (Albanian indefinite: Shqipëri, provides: Shqipëria), officially the Republic of Albania (alb Republika e Shqipërisë.), Is a country in South Eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula. It is bordered to the north by Montenegro and Kosovo, on the east by Macedonia and Greece to the south. The natural western boundary is formed by the shores of the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, making the country one of the countries bordering the Mediterranean. The country is a member of the United Nations, NATO, CEFTA, the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Council of Europe, of the Cooperation Council for South Eastern Europe, the OSCE and the EU candidate country. Capital and seat of government of the country is Tirana. The Human Development Index ranks Albania to the highly developed countries.
